Ziemek to Join Fushi Copperweld in Lead Technical Role

Monday, Jun 28, 2010

Fushi Copperweld Inc. (Nasdaq:FSIN) today announced the appointment of Gerhard Ziemek, Ph.D, as Director of Special Projects. Fushi Copperweld is the leading global manufacturer and innovator of copper-clad bimetallic wire used in a variety of telecommunication, utility, transportation and other electrical applications. Dr. Ziemek will lead Fushi Copperweld’s global research, development and bimetallic product engineering efforts, effective July 1, 2010.

A trailblazer in the field of bimetallics, Dr. Ziemek brings decades of research and product development leadership to Fushi Copperweld.  It was Ziemek who invented the continuous bonding method for copper-clad aluminum (CCA) in 1972.  That process so vastly improved the existing cladding technology that it made CCA the standard conductor throughout the telecommunications sector, particularly in the area of cable television transmission.

“Dr. Ziemek is recognized worldwide as one of the leading minds in wire and cable technology, with a knowledge both broad and deep of the potential applications for bimetallics in today’s marketplace.  His primary charge will be working with our partners in the wire and cable manufacturing industry not only to enhance existing applications, but to develop new usages for copper-clad aluminum and copper-clad steel that will produce higher quality and more cost-effective alternatives to solid copper wire,” says Joe Longever, co-CEO of Fushi Copperweld.  “We are very pleased to be adding someone of Dr. Ziemek’s calibre to our R&D staff in such a high-profile role, and I am sure his impact on our company’s product offerings will yield very exciting results.”

Gerhard Ziemek earned his engineering degree at the Leibniz University of Hannover, and a doctorate at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany, and is the holder of numerous patents.  He will be based in Hannover, Germany, the crossroads of the European wire and cable industry, but will travel extensively to Fushi Copperweld’s five manufacturing locations to work with local R&D teams on creating special products for the bimetallic conductor market worldwide. Prior to his appointment with Fushi Copperweld, he was the principal of his own technical consultancy, and has also held positions with Alcatel and KME Europa.
