PEPCO Escalates Its Efforts for Tackling Power Distribution Problems

Pakistan Electric Power Company inaugurated the installation of new 250 MVA power transformer at New Kot lakhpat grid station Lahore, replacing already placed 160 MVA power transformers which was heavily over loaded due to increase in electricity load used by the consumers. Millions of consumers will be facilitated with the installation of this heavy power transformer, as the over loading will be eased up to control power break downs.

PEPCO has intensified its efforts to cope up with the growing demand of electricity. New power generation plants are being commissioned and system augmentation programme is also being executed to tackle the problems of power disruptions, low voltage and over loading.
PEPCO has also accelerated developmental activities and through village electrification programme, it has provided electricity to over 8139 villages within the period from July 2008 to may 2009, in all provinces of Pakistan. This village electrification was carried out under People’s works programme (4601 villages) and Khushal Pakistan programme(3538 villages).

Under PEPCO’s instructions to extend modern facilities to the rural areas, HESCO in sind area electrified 1582 villages, PESCO in NWFP electrified 832 villages, TESCO in tribal areas 114 villages,QUESCO in Balochistan provided electricity to 1280 villages. Other than these FESCO 779,GEPCO 103,IESCO 441 MEPCO 2536 and LESCO electrified 472 villages during the fiscal year. This project included, survey and planning, extension of feeders, installation of electric poles and transformers and laying of electricity cables in hundreds of square miles area.

Total demand touched the figure of 15717 MW on 23 June 2009 and a deficit of 2451 MW was managed, which was 4737 MW on the same day last year.

Total export of electricity to KESC was 690 MW,as compared to 610 MW last year on the same date.
