Oil and gas is a dangerous industry...organisations simply must step-up the standards

Aberdeen, UK– There has been no shortage of headlines in the last few months detailing the hazards to personnel of working in the Oil and Gas industry.  From increased reports of piracy to damaging fires, the impact of these news-making events is putting pressure on the industry to raise the standards and protect its people.  

These incidents cost organisations dearly in both human and financial terms. Case in point was the ruling back in November that saw both Shell and AMEC fined £150,000 each for a fatality at an offshore gas platform.

Major incidents can have far reaching impacts that last well beyond the incident itself. Take for example the fallout from the Buncefield explosion in 2003; the millions in litigation is still being spent and it was announced just last month that criminal charges will be laid against the five companies involved.

Finding practical solutions to avoid these types of devastating incidents is what will be on the table at an industry conference taking place in Aberdeen in February.
